Screen Test

Pitch & Narrative/Plot Sequence

HUSBAND AND WIFE STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP, LITERALLY. A short film, aimed to exaggerate the common circumstances in life-long relationships. Rose and Stanley have been married for over 20 years now. Together, they have 2 daughters and a difficult relationship. Throughout the course of the film, their relationship slowly deteriorates until they are unable to communicate properly. Rose is clearly on edge around Stanley, and a little bit fake. She tries to put in a lot of effort but Stanley is more laidback about the relationship and goes unbothered. This, amongst discoveries of Stanley's unfaithfulness, bothers Rose and drives her to murder.

SHORT FILM - concerns and discussions

What will be difficult when it comes to making my film? - making it look realistic and not corny - making sure the story makes sense and is somewhat realistic - possibility of acting taking away from the film - after discussion, I have received feedback of the bin room - Will the actor want to lie down on a floor in a bin room? --> chose not to use bin room in the end, the death instead takes place in the bedroom. This was more hygienic and easier to film. Preliminary task I did a preliminary task with Mabel using the cameras to get the gist of how best to shoot and what techniques to use. I learnt that its better to shoot a whole sequence and then repeat this at different angles, instead of filming in a stop/start manner. This way, I will have a lot of footage and so a lot of content and options when it comes to editing. It will also most likely look better and more natural on screen as the acting is on-going. Also, in this preliminary task, Mabel & I were able

Echo by Lewis Arnold

This more distressing long short is about a young student who has found herself wrapped up in a sequence of public lies, which she uses to make cash. The story begins with the audience feeling sympathy and pain for the girl, that is until it develops and we learn that there is more to the traumatic event which she first encounters. The plot is based on a true story witnessed by the writer, James Walker. The social realism atmosphere of the film brings the audience into a relatable world.

Over by Jörn Threlfall

Image
This initially ambiguous short film is based on the true story of a stowaway who fell out of an airplane on his 26th birthday, landing on a pavement in West London. The film is shown in chronological order with Threlfall aiming to "make the viewer be the detective" This is labelled as an "experimental" short film.

Tight Jeans by Destiny Ekharaga

Image
Tight jeans is a social realist short comedy, focused on three men waiting for a friend on a wall outside his apartment. In this time of waiting there is nothing to do but talk and through people watching, the men share a comedic conversation about their african history. The cinematography at the beginning of the film allows lots of scene setting and the jump cuts differ from the longer ongoing shots of the conversation. When the point of conversation is established, of the tight jeans, a simple close up is used This is followed by a fairly long tracking shot of the same view as the man with the tight jeans walks along, it is because of this that the audience knows these jeans have caught the mens attention and a quick cut to a close up of the mens expression and following eyes establishes their interest: the performance of the three men is important in this short film as there is not an array of angles the camera can use to create any subtext. The mens stance and gestures c
